The LI works with other agencies and as part of multi-disciplinary groups to ensure that landscape issues and the Institute's objectives are represented where it matters.

The LI's membership of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), means we are also actively involved in the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Excellence in the Built Environment, which meets regularly to inform MPs about key issues in the built environment. We also take part in the CIC's general work, which has included publishing a Manifesto for the Built Environment before the 2010 UK general election, liaising with the Chief Construction Adviser and responding to government consultations on matters which affect the built environment.

The Landscape Institute sits on the Advisory Council for Design Council CABE, the arm of the Design Council which has dealt with Design Review, Enabling and the design of public space since April 2011.

The Institute is a member of the Trees and Design Action Group, a multi-disciplinary group of individual professionals and organisations from the private and public sectors, whose aim is to increase awareness of the role of trees in the built environment. In particular, the valuable contribution made by large-growing trees is often overlooked due to negative perceptions relating to maintenance, safety and associated costs.

The European Landscape Convention (ELC) is the first international convention to focus specifically on landscape, and is dedicated exclusively to the protection, management and planning of all landscapes in Europe.
Binding since March 2007, the ELC highlights the need to recognise landscape in law, to develop landscape policies dedicated to the protection, management and creation of landscapes, and to establish procedures for the participation of the general public and other stakeholders in the creation and implementation of landscape policies. It also encourages the integration of landscape into all relevant areas of policy, including cultural, economic and social policies.
